General Electric's world-class facility in Wayne County advertises a
culture committed to driving innovation and state-of-the-art
communication infrastructure. It is home to next-generation virtual
meeting technology, collaborative workspaces, and a host of amenities
for its employees.
GE is a very, very
large multi-national company. Its list of products and services is very
impressive: appliances, aviation, engines, consumer products,
electrical distribution, energy, finance, entertainment, healthcare,
lighting, oil & gas, rail, security, and water. The corporation's
$100 million investment in Wayne County will, among other objectives
and goals, centralize the corporation's intellectual property. This
means that the professionals at the GE Center will collaboratively
develop strategic objectives and implementation plans to improve and
serve every division of the company.
Bankston, Human Resources Director for GE at the Van Buren site, took
time out of her very busy schedule to meet and discuss the progress of
the corporation's Advanced Manufacturing & Software Technology Development Center, located in the old headquarters of Visteon at I-275 and Ecorse Road in Van Buren Township.
at the Center is already being measured and realized. Kimberly is very
proud of the fact that the GE team is ahead of schedule in Van Buren in
terms of making the center fully operational. The corporation is hiring
professionals at a rate faster than planned and the buildout time is
ahead of schedule, mostly because the necessary infrastructure is
already in place. The Center's proximity to Metro Airport is also a
very real asset as company executives and visitors fly in and out in
preparation of the Center's official opening.
Electric is also very pleased with the attraction/incentive package put
together by Wayne County, Van Buren Township and the State of Michigan.
Perhaps the most attractive aspect of the package is that it is
immediately available and allowed the corporate team at the site to
immediately begin to outfit the buildings.
Much more is on the horizon for the GE Advanced Manufacturing Technology and Software Center and you will be able to read about here over the next several months.
